366 films in 366 days...
That is a rather epic task indeed, so what better film to start with than the final part of one of the greatest trilogies ever commited to film? I have always loved Lord Of The Rings, ever since i read the books then saw the Fellowship Of The Ring many years ago. I'll be reviewing that at some point too, as well as the second one, The Two Towers.
So, a little background to this film. Frodo and Sam have met up with Gollum and are on their way to Mordor. Merry, Pippin and the Ents have other thrown Isengard and left Saruman trapped in his tower. Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas and Gandalf have aided the people of Rohan and defeated the Uruk-Hai forces of Sauron and Saruman. Looking back at this i realise I should have probably reviewed them in order, but hey XD
This film is brilliant in almost every way possible. The CGI graphics are mind blowing, the action scenes kick ass, and the plot runs as smooth as an infant's backside. Even from the first scene of the movie, where Smeagol is shown gaining the One Ring and being thrown into exile, the whole atmosphere is dripping with huge levels of epic. When Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas encounter the ghosts later on , the CGI effects are simply breathtaking.
And of course, that final hour or so long battle featuring Orcs, Trolls, Aragorn, Rohirrim, Mumakil and those delighfully epic ghosts! Legolas taking down a whole Mumakil all by himself =O
Oh and the bit with the Witch King and Eowyn!
Oh and the bit at the end where Aragorn fights a fully grown troll on his own <3
Oh and the bit where...
I'll stop.
To put it basically, there are so many awesome moments in this film that make it essential viewing for all fans of the fantasy epic genre. It remains one of the best films I've ever seen, and probably will for a long time to come.
A very well deserved 9.5/10
